We can give you tools to truly help the homeless.
We started the Campaign for Real
Change to help you live out your
desire to help people in desperate
need, in ways that will be effective,
safe, and pleasing to God.
In every issue of Real Change, we’ll
focus on another aspect of practical
outreach you can use in your own life.
For more information and tips, visit the
“Campaign for Real Change” page on our
website.
This month’s tip is:
Never give a homeless person cash.
A cash gift seems like the easiest way to reach out a helping hand, but the
sad truth is many homeless people will turn your gift into drugs or alcohol —
not because they’re lying when they say they’re hungry, but because they’re
so trapped in their addiction they can’t spend money on food. Instead, buy him or her a meal, or give them
gift certificates to fast-food places. Or you can give them one of our
Real Change Certificates, good for a hot meal and a bed
at the mission. You can download a sheet right now. Simply click the link below. A hot meal will mean so much
… and so will your practical compassion.
