A Mind Renewed

The Story of Doralyn

DoralynDoralyn, was born into a troubled home. She was physically abused and her mother was addicted to Valium. Her parents divorced, igniting something inside of her that sent her down a path of destruction. At 15 years old she was sent to live with her older cousin who initiated her into the adult world of bars and parties and soon she was with child. She entered into a relationship with a man that, fueled by drugs and alcohol, was volatile and abusive. They had a child together, Doralyn’s second, and their life together continued in this way for 17 years until the relationship ended.

Doralyn and Tracie in the GardenHowever, the use of drugs and alcohol that ruled her life did not end. In desperation she began using the rent money to support her habit. This eventually led to the loss not only of her home but of her children as well. Having hit bottom, she began to look for help. She entered a recovery program, but a month later, was out and drinking again. She thought at theDoralyn and Tracie - Studying the Bible time drinking wasn’t the problem. Doralyn says God opened her eyes to this error and led her to fi nd Manna Home. Knowing this would require more than a 30 day commitment, she also knew she was ready (with God’s help) to do whatever it took. Doralyn is currently immersing herself in the program at Manna Home, which encompasses developing a healthy life style, prayer and accountability. Her mentor, Tracie, is there for her every step of the way.
